The Commission

I didn't start this story with a monster.

I started it with a question I couldn't quite answer: how much of what we feel for someone is actually 'there'...and how much of it do we build ourselves?

I thought about the people I know and their experiences in relationships, some of which should have ended long before they did.

There's something unsettling about how easily we fill in what we can't see.

Especially when we want something to be real.

This story lives in the moment before anything is revealed.

The moment where something feels slightly off...

and you have to decide if you're going to notice.

I think most of us have had that moment. The question is whether we stay anyway.
